Tamblingan Lake

Lake Tamblingan is a lake located on the northern slope of Mount Lesung, Munduk Village area, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency, Bali. This lake is one of three twin lakes formed inside a large caldera. To the east there are Lake Buyan and Beratan Lake respectively. Flanked by the surrounding forest and because of its location in the highlands make the lake environment is cool. As one of the natural attractions, Lake Tamblingan not developed in the direction of modern tourism in order to preserve the nature and environment. The main attraction of this place is not only its natural charm, but also because of the many temples that hold the history and development of civilization and culture of Bali in particular concerning the formation and development of Tamblingan Village. Told in the 10M to 14M centuries the environment of Lake Tamblingan is a settlement whose center is located in Mount Lesung south of the lake. For a reason the population then moved to four different areas that are still close to the area of ​​the lake. The four villages are then called Catur Desa, which means four villages namely: Munduk Village, Gobleg, Gesing, and Umejero. These four villages have a spiritual bond and have the responsibility and obligation to maintain the sanctity of the lake and the temple that is around it. The name Tamblingan comes from two words in Balinese ie Tamba means medicine, and Elingang means recall or spiritual ability. Narrated in Lontar Kutara Kanda Dewa Purana Bangsul that the people in the area are said to have been hit by epidemics. As a way out someone is purified then down to a small lake below the village to take water for medicine. Thanks to prayer and spiritual ability he water then used as medicine and able to heal the village community. The word Tamba and Elingang is gradually becoming Tamblingan.
